Surah Al-Layl — Verse 14

• Anzartukum (أَنذَرْتُكُمْ): I have warned you, made you fearful, and alerted you to a danger.

• Talaẓẓā (تَلَظَّى): A fire that blazes fiercely, flames up, and rages with intense heat.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah — through His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) — addresses all of humanity, particularly the people of Makkah who were hearing the Qur'an directly, saying: "I have warned you and made you fearful of a Fire that blazes and flames with intense heat." This is the Fire of Hell, which is not an ordinary fire, but one that is fueled by the wrath of Allah and prepared for those who disobey Him, reject His messengers, and persist in sin and disbelief. The word "talaẓẓā" describes a fire that is constantly kindled, leaping up in flames, never dying down, and consuming everything thrown into it. This warning is not a threat for its own sake, but a mercy from Allah — a clear notice given before the punishment arrives, so that every soul may turn back, repent, and seek His forgiveness before it is too late.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a call of compassion from your Lord. He did not leave you without guidance, nor did He let you walk blindly toward destruction. Instead, He sent His prophets and revealed His books to warn you — out of pure love — of a Fire whose heat is unimaginable, whose fuel is stones and men, and whose torment is eternal. But the very fact that you are being warned means the door of mercy is still open. The warning is a sign that Allah wants you to be saved, not destroyed. So let this verse awaken your heart: if you have fallen into sin, know that the Fire is real, but so is Allah's forgiveness. Return to Him today, before the flames become your reality. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The Fire is surrounded by desires, and Paradise is surrounded by hardships" — so choose the path that leads to eternal bliss, and flee from the path that leads to the blazing Fire. Your Lord is calling you to safety; will you answer?
