Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- لَا يَصْلَاهَا (lā yaṣlāhā): "Shall not enter it" or "shall not endure its heat" — meaning to be cast into it and suffer its burning fire.
- الْأَشْقَى (al-ashqā): "The most wretched" — the one who has reached the utmost degree of misery and deprivation in their disbelief and rebellion.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse tells us that the blazing Fire — which was described in the preceding verses as one that "roasts" and "burns" — shall not be entered or endured except by the most wretched of people. Who is this "most wretched"? It is the one who has combined two terrible qualities: first, they denied the truth — specifically, they rejected the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and refused to believe in Allah and His Messenger; and second, they turned away from faith entirely, abandoning obedience to Allah and His commands. Such a person has sealed their own fate by their persistent disbelief and arrogance, and their misery is complete because they have cut themselves off from the mercy of Allah.
This does not mean that believers who commit sins will never enter the Fire — rather, the verse refers to the eternal abode in Hell for the disbelievers who die upon their disbelief. The believer who sins may be punished temporarily, but their end is Paradise, while the "most wretched" — the persistent denier who rejects the truth and turns away — will remain in the Fire forever.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: Allah, in His infinite mercy, has made the path to Paradise wide and accessible to all who believe and do good, but He has reserved the eternal Fire for those who stubbornly reject His guidance and turn away from His call. This verse is a warning, but it is also an invitation — an invitation to examine your heart, to embrace the truth while there is still time, and to save yourself from the fate of the "most wretched." Do not let pride or stubbornness keep you from the light of faith. Allah's door of repentance is open until the moment of death, and His mercy encompasses all things. Come to Him with a sincere heart, and you will find that He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
