Tafsir (Explanation):

In this dramatic moment, the scene unfolds with intense urgency. Yusuf (peace be upon him) rushed towards the door, seeking to flee from the temptation and sin that the woman of the Aziz had been trying to lure him into. She, in turn, raced after him, desperate to prevent his escape. As he reached for the door, she grabbed hold of his shirt from behind and pulled with such force that she tore it — ripping it from the back, a detail that would later serve as clear evidence of his innocence.

Just as this struggle was happening, they both suddenly found the Aziz — her husband — standing right there at the door. Seeing her husband, the woman immediately turned the tables and spoke first, cunningly playing the victim. She asked: "What is the punishment for one who intended evil against your family — except that he be imprisoned or given a painful punishment?" She was, of course, referring to Yusuf, falsely accusing him of attempting to seduce her, while in reality, she was the one who had closed the doors, adorned herself, and invited him to sin.

This verse teaches us several profound lessons:

First: The purity of Yusuf (peace be upon him) — he chose to flee rather than fall into sin, even when the doors were closed and the temptation was great. This is the hallmark of true faith: running away from sin with all one's strength.

Second: The cunning nature of false accusation — the woman spoke first, and her words were designed to manipulate her husband's emotions and secure Yusuf's punishment before he could even defend himself. This reminds us of the importance of seeking the full truth before judging anyone.

Third: Allah's protection of His righteous servants — although Yusuf was about to be falsely accused and imprisoned, Allah had a greater plan. This trial would eventually elevate him to a position of power and authority in Egypt, and would ultimately lead to the reunion of his family. What seemed like a disaster was, in fact, a stepping stone to greatness.

Fourth: The verse highlights the sanctity of the family and the severe consequence of any attack upon its honor — the woman herself acknowledged that the punishment for such a crime is imprisonment or painful punishment, even though she was the guilty one. This shows that Islam upholds the protection of family honor as a fundamental principle.

A Call to Reflection: Dear reader, look at how Yusuf (peace be upon him) handled this moment of extreme trial. He did not argue, he did not panic — he simply trusted in Allah and maintained his integrity. When you face trials in your life, remember that Allah sees everything. The woman's lie was exposed by the torn shirt from behind — a small detail that Allah used as evidence of truth. Never doubt that Allah, in His perfect wisdom, always brings the truth to light. And never underestimate the power of patience and righteousness — for Yusuf's patience in this world earned him honor in this life and the next. Let us strive to be like him: pure in heart, steadfast in faith, and trusting in Allah's plan even when the doors seem to close upon us.

📜 Verse 23-27 — Yusuf

And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, "Come, you." He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah. Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed."
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.
And they both raced to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back, and they found her husband at the door. She said, "What is the recompense of one who intended evil for your wife but that he be imprisoned or a painful punishment?"
[Joseph] said, "It was she who sought to seduce me." And a witness from her family testified. "If his shirt is torn from the front, then she has told the truth, and he is of the liars.
But if his shirt is torn from the back, then she has lied, and he is of the truthful."
