Explanation of the Verse:
When the messengers heard the stubborn rejection of their people, who demanded that the messengers be angels or possess extraordinary powers, the messengers responded with wisdom, humility, and clarity. They said: "We are indeed only human beings like yourselves—we do not deny this, nor do we claim to be anything other than that. However, this similarity in humanity does not mean we are equal in every matter. Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, bestows His special favor upon whomever He chooses from among His servants. He selects them to carry His message, not because of any merit they possess on their own, but purely out of His divine grace and will."
The messengers further explained: "It is not within our power, nor is it our right, to bring you a miracle or a sign of our own choosing. We cannot produce a proof or a wonder simply because you demand it. That matter rests entirely with Allah alone. He grants miracles to His prophets as He wills, at the time He wills, and in the manner He wills. We are merely obedient servants who act according to His command, and we have no authority to go beyond what He has decreed for us."
Then the messengers concluded with a profound lesson for all believers: "And upon Allah alone, let the believers rely." This is a directive and a command—a call to place one's complete trust, hope, and dependence solely upon Allah in all affairs. For the one who truly believes knows that success, guidance, and victory come only from Allah. He is the One who grants honor and humiliates, who gives and withholds, and who controls all matters of the heavens and the earth.
This verse carries a timeless message for every believer: that true honor lies not in worldly status or physical form, but in Allah's choice and favor. The messengers were human, yet Allah elevated them to the highest ranks because of their sincerity, patience, and unwavering trust in Him. Likewise, every believer is called to embody this spirit of tawakkul—to strive with all their might, and then to leave the results entirely to Allah, knowing that He is the Best of planners and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
So, dear believer, let your heart find rest in this beautiful truth: you are not left alone in this world. The same Allah who chose His messengers and supported them with His signs is your Lord and Protector today. Place your trust in Him, and He will never abandon you. For indeed, Allah loves those who put their trust in Him, and He is sufficient for those who rely upon Him alone.
