Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Fāṭir (فاطر): The Originator and Creator who brought the heavens and the earth into existence from nothing, without any prior model or example.
- Min dhunūbikum (من ذنوبكم): From your sins — specifically referring to sins committed against Allah, which are erased upon sincere faith and repentance.
- Ajalin musammā (أجل مسمى): A specified, appointed term — meaning the fixed lifespan of every soul, which only Allah determines.
- Sulṭānin mubīn (سلطان مبين): A clear, evident proof or authority that makes the truth unmistakably visible.
The Interpretation:
When the messengers called their peoples to the worship of Allah alone, the disbelievers responded with doubt and suspicion. So the messengers replied with a profound rhetorical question: "Is there any doubt about Allah?" — as if to say: How can there be any uncertainty regarding the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who originated them from absolute nothingness? His existence, His power, and His divinity are so evident that questioning them is beyond reason. He is the One who calls you — out of His mercy — to believe in Him, so that He may forgive you your sins and grant you a reprieve in this worldly life until your appointed term, rather than seizing you with immediate punishment.
Yet the disbelievers, stubborn and arrogant, responded: "You are nothing but human beings like us." They could not see beyond the physical form of the messengers, failing to recognize that prophethood is a divine choice, not a matter of social status or physical superiority. They accused the messengers of merely wanting to turn them away from the worship their forefathers practiced — the idols and false deities — and they demanded a clear, visible miracle as proof of their truthfulness.
This exchange reveals a timeless pattern: when the truth is presented with clarity, those who are attached to inherited traditions and worldly status reject it, not because of genuine doubt, but because of pride and fear of change. The messengers, however, responded with patience and wisdom, appealing to the innate human recognition of the Creator.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this beautiful question the messengers posed: *"Is there any doubt about Allah?"* Look at the sky above you, the earth beneath your feet, the intricate design of your own body, and the order of the universe — how can all of this exist without a Creator? The One who made all of this is now calling *you* — not to burden you, but to forgive you, to cleanse you, and to grant you a life of purpose and peace. He does not need your worship; you need His mercy. He has given you a specified term in this world as an opportunity — a window of time to turn back to Him before you meet Him. Do not waste this precious opportunity. Answer His call today, for He is the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving, and His door is always open to those who seek Him with a sincere heart.
