- Halalan (حَلَالًا): Lawful, permissible according to the rulings of Allah.
- Tayyiban (طَيِّبًا): Pure, wholesome, and good — that which is not only lawful but also clean and beneficial.
- Ni'mat Allah (نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ): The blessings and favors of Allah upon His servants.
- Ta'budun (تَعْبُدُونَ): You worship — meaning you are devoted to Him alone in obedience and submission.
Explanation of the Verse:
O believers, eat from the provision that Allah has granted you, but be mindful that it is *halal* — lawful and permissible — and *tayyib* — wholesome and pure. This means you should not only seek what is allowed but also what is good and beneficial for your body and soul. Allah has placed abundance in the earth for you, and He has made clear what is forbidden; so take from what He has made lawful with gratitude in your hearts.
And be grateful for the blessings of Allah — acknowledge them with your hearts, praise Him with your tongues, and use those blessings in ways that please Him. Gratitude is not merely a word; it is a state of being that reflects in your actions, your choices, and your devotion. When you eat, when you drink, when you work, when you rest — let your awareness of Allah's generosity fill you with thankfulness.
This command is addressed to those who truly worship Allah alone — those who have submitted their will to Him and follow His guidance. If you claim to be His servants, then your eating, your drinking, and your entire lifestyle should reflect that servitude. The one who worships Allah does not consume what Allah has forbidden, nor does he misuse the blessings Allah has given him.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, pause and reflect on the food before you. Every bite you take is a gift from your Lord — a gift that required the sun, the rain, the earth, and the mercy of Allah to reach your hands. How can you repay such generosity? By eating what is lawful, by avoiding what is forbidden, and by turning every blessing into a means of drawing closer to Him.
This verse is an invitation to a life of balance — where you enjoy the good things of this world without transgressing the limits of your Lord, and where gratitude becomes your constant companion. When you thank Allah for His blessings, He promises to increase you. So open your heart to gratitude, and watch how your life transforms with peace, contentment, and divine favor.
Let your worship be sincere — not merely in the mosque, but in your kitchen, your workplace, and your home. For when you eat with the remembrance of Allah, your food becomes an act of worship. When you earn with honesty, your wealth becomes a blessing. And when you live in gratitude, your entire existence becomes a testimony to the greatness of your Creator.
So eat, O servants of Allah, from what He has provided — lawful and pure — and be grateful for His favors, if you are truly devoted to Him in worship.
