Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- عِبَادِي (My servants): Refers to the righteous servants of Allah, including angels, Prophets like Jesus ('Isa) and Ezra ('Uzayr), and even the devils whom some polytheists worshipped.
- أَوْلِيَاءَ (allies/protectors): Objects of worship, taken as patrons, helpers, or intercessors besides Allah.
- أَعْتَدْنَا (We have prepared): Made ready and fully equipped.
- نُزُلًا (a lodging/entertainment): A place of welcome and accommodation prepared for a guest — here, ironically, Hellfire is prepared as the "hospitality" for the disbelievers.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah poses a rhetorical question, full of rebuke and astonishment: "Do those who disbelieve truly think that they can take My servants — angels, Prophets, or even devils — as protectors and objects of worship instead of Me?" This is a severe condemnation of their false assumption. They imagined that these created beings could intercede for them, bring them benefit, or save them from punishment. But Allah declares that such a notion is utterly misguided. He has created all beings; none of them possesses even an atom's weight of power or independence. How then could they be worshipped alongside the Creator of the heavens and the earth?
The verse then delivers a decisive warning: "Indeed, We have prepared Hellfire for the disbelievers as a lodging." The word *nuzul* is used — a term normally reserved for the honorable reception of a guest. But here, it is used ironically: instead of a gracious welcome, the disbelievers will be "welcomed" with blazing Fire. It is not merely a temporary punishment, but an eternal abode, fully prepared and waiting for them.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder to reflect: if you place your trust, hope, and worship in anyone other than Allah, you are building your life on a foundation that will collapse into the Fire. But if you turn sincerely to Allah alone, He welcomes you with His mercy and Paradise.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and ask yourself: whom do you rely upon in your moments of hardship? Whom do you call upon when all doors seem closed? This verse strips away every false refuge and directs your heart to the only true Protector — Allah, the Lord of all worlds. He has prepared Hell for those who reject Him, but He has also prepared Paradise — with rivers, gardens, and eternal bliss — for those who believe and do righteous deeds. The choice is yours, and it is made in this very life. Do not wait until the Day when the truth becomes undeniable, for then it will be too late. Turn to Allah now, with a sincere heart, and He will turn to you with mercy, forgiveness, and a reward beyond your imagination.
