Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Yundhira (يُنذِرَ): To warn, to caution, or to make someone aware of a serious consequence.
- Qālū (قَالُوا): Those who said or claimed.
- Attakhadha (اتَّخَذَ): Took, adopted, or claimed (for themselves a belief).
- Waladan (وَلَدًا): A son, offspring, or child.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the praise of the Qur'an as a straight and unerring guide, and it clarifies one of the primary purposes of this divine revelation: to issue a stern and decisive warning to those who have fallen into the gravest of errors—the claim that Allah, the Almighty, has taken for Himself a son or offspring.
This warning is directed at three specific groups who held this corrupt belief: the Jews, who claimed that Ezra (Uzair) was the son of God; the Christians, who made the same claim regarding Jesus (Isa), the Messiah, peace be upon him; and some of the Arab polytheists, who falsely alleged that the angels were God's daughters.
The verse serves as a profound rebuke of this notion, which contradicts the very essence of Allah's absolute oneness, His perfection, and His utter independence from any need. Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is not begotten, nor does He beget. He is free from any resemblance to His creation, and attributing a child to Him is a slander of the highest order—a distortion of the pure truth of Tawhid (monotheism) that every prophet, from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all), was sent to establish.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect upon the majesty of this warning. The Qur'an does not merely tell a story; it confronts the falsehoods that have crept into human belief systems across the ages, and it calls every soul back to the pure, untainted truth: that Allah is One, Unique, and Self-Sufficient. He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and He is far above any human or angelic description.
This verse is an invitation for you to free your heart from every false notion and to embrace the pristine faith of Islam—a faith that honors Allah with the perfection He deserves and elevates the human being by connecting them directly to their Creator without any intermediaries, partners, or offspring. When you understand that Allah is One, your heart finds peace, your purpose becomes clear, and your life is guided by a light that never fades. Let this warning be a mercy for you, steering you away from error and toward the eternal success that lies in sincere submission to your Lord.
