Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- صَعِيدًا (Sa'eedan): Smooth, level ground or soil.
- جُرُزًا (Juruzan): Barren, dry land that produces no vegetation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse follows the mention of the earth’s adornment—its greenery, beauty, and all the delights that captivate human hearts. Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) declares with absolute certainty: "And indeed, We will make whatever is upon it a barren, dry plain."
This means that all the beauty, wealth, vegetation, and life that now decorate the earth’s surface will, at the end of this world, be reduced to dust—smooth, level, and utterly lifeless. Nothing will remain that grows or flourishes. The earth that once bloomed with gardens and rivers will become a wasteland, stripped of every trace of life.
This is a profound reminder of the temporary nature of this worldly life. The very ground beneath our feet—which today produces food, flowers, and shade—will one day be rendered completely barren. The One who created this beauty is the same One who will erase it in an instant, for He has full power over all things.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this powerful truth. The world you see today—with its magnificent cities, lush forests, and all the luxuries that occupy your time and heart—is destined for annihilation. Why then attach your heart to what will surely perish? Why exhaust yourself chasing pleasures that will vanish like a mirage?
This verse is not meant to sadden you, but to awaken you. It invites you to look beyond the temporary and invest in what is eternal. The wise person is not the one who accumulates the most of this world, but the one who prepares for the Day when the earth becomes a barren plain—the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, only deeds done sincerely for Allah will bear fruit, while the glitter of this world will be nothing but dust.
Let this truth soften your heart, increase your gratitude for the blessings you have now, and motivate you to use your time and resources for what truly matters: knowing Allah, worshipping Him, and serving His creation. For the earth will indeed become barren, but the rewards of the Hereafter are everlasting and never decay.
