Word Meanings:

  • Taaba (repented): Turning back from sin and error, returning to obedience of Allah.
  • Aamana (believed): Sincere faith in Allah, His Messenger, and all that has been revealed.
  • Amila salihan (did righteous deeds): Performing good actions that are in accordance with the teachings of Islam, including fulfilling obligatory acts and avoiding what is forbidden.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse comes as a door of hope and mercy, opening wide for those who have fallen into sin or shortcoming. After mentioning the fate of those who turned away from guidance, Allah — in His infinite mercy — makes an exception: "Except those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds."

Repentance here is not merely a word uttered by the tongue; it is a sincere turning back to Allah, accompanied by genuine faith in the heart and righteous actions that confirm the truthfulness of that repentance. The one who repents must abandon the sin, feel deep regret for having committed it, and resolve firmly not to return to it. Then, faith must take root in the heart — faith in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day. And finally, righteous deeds must follow, for actions are the fruit of faith and the proof of sincere repentance.

For such people — those who combine repentance, faith, and good deeds — Allah promises: "They will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all." They will not have any of their good deeds diminished, not even by the weight of a speck of dust. Rather, Allah will multiply their rewards and forgive their past sins entirely, as if they had never committed them.

This verse teaches us that no matter how great one's sins may be, the door of repentance remains open. Allah does not close His mercy upon His servants. The one who returns to Him with a sincere heart will find Him Forgiving and Merciful. It also reminds us that true repentance must be accompanied by action — for faith without deeds is empty, and deeds without faith are not accepted.

A Call to the Reader:

Dear brother or sister, never despair of Allah's mercy, no matter what you have done in the past. Today is a new beginning. The gates of Paradise are wide open for those who turn back to their Lord with sincerity. Do not let Shaytan deceive you into believing that your sins are too great to be forgiven. Allah's mercy encompasses everything. Take the first step today: repent to Allah, strengthen your faith, and begin performing righteous deeds — even if they are small, for consistent small deeds are beloved to Allah. And know that every good deed you do will be rewarded in full, and nothing of your effort will be lost.

📜 Verse 58-62 — Maryam

Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.
But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil -
Except those who repent, believe and do righteousness; for those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all.
[Therein are] gardens of perpetual residence which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. Indeed, His promise has ever been coming.
They will not hear therein any ill speech - only [greetings of] peace - and they will have their provision therein, morning and afternoon.
