Explanation of the Verse:

After describing the first type of hypocrites — who are like a person kindling a fire that Allah extinguishes, leaving them in darkness — Allah now presents a second, even more vivid parable. He says: *"Or like a heavy rain from the sky, within which are darknesses, thunder, and lightning."*

Imagine a traveler caught in an open, barren land when suddenly a violent storm descends. The sky darkens with thick, overlapping clouds that block all light. Thunder crashes with deafening roars, lightning flashes with blinding intensity, and then come the thunderbolts — fiery strikes that can kill in an instant. The terror is overwhelming.

In this state of sheer panic, these people — the hypocrites — press their fingers deep into their ears to block out the terrifying sounds, desperately trying to shield themselves from the threat of death. They are paralyzed by fear, unable to move forward or backward, trapped in the storm.

This is the state of the hypocrites when the truth of the Quran is recited to them. The Quran contains commands and prohibitions, promises of Paradise and warnings of Hellfire — just as the storm contains darkness, thunder, and lightning. When they hear its verses, they are struck with fear and confusion. They try to block out the truth, covering their ears and turning away, hoping to escape its demands upon their lives. Yet, they cannot escape.

Then comes the decisive statement: *"And Allah is Encompassing over the disbelievers."* This means that no matter how much they try to shield themselves, hide their intentions, or flee from the truth, Allah surrounds them completely. Their every move, every thought, every attempt at deception is fully within His knowledge and power. They cannot escape His justice, just as the storm-tossed traveler cannot outrun the sky above him.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this parable deeply. The hypocrites lived in constant anxiety because they refused to submit to the truth. They heard the Quran but did not let it penetrate their hearts. They saw the signs of Allah but closed their eyes. Their lives were filled with fear and instability — never at peace, never secure.

How different is the state of the true believer! When the believer hears the Quran, it brings tranquility to the heart. The same verses that terrify the hypocrite become a source of light, guidance, and comfort for the faithful. The believer does not run from the truth but embraces it, finding in it the path to eternal success.

Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent down this Quran as a guide. The storms of this world — its trials, its uncertainties — are temporary. But the peace that comes from submitting to Allah is everlasting. Do not be like those who cover their ears and flee. Open your heart, listen to the call of truth, and you will find that Allah's encompassing mercy is far greater than His encompassing justice. He invites you to Paradise even while He warns of Hellfire — and He loves nothing more than for His servant to turn back to Him.

Let this verse be a reminder: the hypocrites' fear was rooted in their rejection of Allah. But for those who believe, there is no fear — for Allah is with them, and He encompasses all things with His mercy and His power.

📜 Verse 17-21 — Al-Baqarah

Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.
Deaf, dumb and blind - so they will not return [to the right path].
Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death. But Allah is encompassing of the disbelievers.
The lightning almost snatches away their sight. Every time it lights [the way] for them, they walk therein; but when darkness comes over them, they stand [still]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous -
