📖 English Meaning
And the example of those who spend their wealth seeking means to the approval of Allah and assuring [reward for] themselves is like a garden on high ground which is hit by a downpour - so it yields its fruits in double. And [even] if it is not hit by a downpour, then a drizzle [is sufficient]. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Yabtaghoona Mardata Allah – Seeking the pleasure and approval of Allah alone.
  • Tathbeetan min anfusihim – With certainty and firm conviction in their hearts, confirming the truth of Allah’s promise.
  • Jannah – A garden or orchard.
  • Rabwah – A raised, fertile elevation of land, neither too high nor too low, ideal for growth.
  • Wabil – Heavy, abundant rain.
  • Ukulaha – Its fruits or produce.
  • Di’fayn – Double the usual yield.
  • Tall – Light, gentle, continuous rain or dew.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, the Most High, presents a beautiful and inspiring parable for those who spend their wealth sincerely for His sake. Such believers are not driven by show or reputation; rather, they give seeking Allah’s pleasure and with hearts firmly established in faith, certain of His promise of reward. Their spending is a natural fruit of their conviction—they know that what they give for Allah is never lost, but rather stored with Him.

Their example is like a garden on a high, fertile ground. When heavy rain falls upon it, it produces double its usual fruit. And if heavy rain does not come, then even a light drizzle is enough to make it thrive, because the soil itself is good and the location is blessed. Either way, the garden flourishes—whether the rain is abundant or scarce.

Similarly, the sincere charity of a believer is always accepted and multiplied by Allah. Whether the donation is large or small, Allah blesses it and makes it grow manifold in reward, because the intention is pure and the heart is connected to Him. The believer’s giving is never wasted, just as the good earth never fails to yield.

And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do—He knows the hidden intentions behind every act. He sees the sincerity of the truthful and the pretence of the hypocrite, and He will reward each according to their true state.

A Da’wah Reflection:

This verse fills the heart with hope and joy! It teaches us that Allah does not look at the amount we give, but at the purity of our intention and the strength of our faith. Even a small coin given with a sincere heart can outweigh mountains of gold given for show. So do not underestimate your charity—no matter how little it seems. Plant your seed in the fertile soil of sincerity, and Allah will make it grow beyond your imagination. Let this parable inspire you to give freely, joyfully, and consistently, knowing that your Lord sees your effort and will reward you with generosity beyond measure. What a beautiful religion that turns even a drop of kindness into an ocean of blessings!

📜 Verse 263-267 — Al-Baqarah

Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing.
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.
Would one of you like to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines underneath which rivers flow in which he has from every fruit? But he is afflicted with old age and has weak offspring, and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned. Thus does Allah make clear to you [His] verses that you might give thought.
O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
