Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Wazīr (وَزِيرًا): A helper, supporter, or assistant who shares the burden of a task. It comes from the root meaning "to bear a heavy load," indicating someone who helps carry responsibilities.
- Min ahlī (مِّنْ أَهْلِي): From my family or close kin — specifically referring here to his brother, Hārūn (Aaron), peace be upon him.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this supplication, Prophet Mūsā (Moses), peace be upon him, continues his heartfelt prayer to his Lord, asking for support in the immense mission of delivering Allah’s message to Pharaoh. After requesting an expanded chest (for patience and courage), ease in his affairs, and eloquence of speech so that his words would be understood, he now asks: "And grant me a helper from my family." This helper is his brother Hārūn, who was known for his eloquence and wisdom. Mūsā did not ask for wealth, armies, or worldly power — he asked for a righteous companion who would stand by him, strengthen his resolve, and share the weight of prophethood. He further requested that Hārūn be made a partner in the mission, so that together they could glorify Allah abundantly and remember Him constantly, acknowledging that Allah is fully aware of all their deeds and intentions.
This verse teaches us the beauty of turning to Allah in times of need, especially when facing daunting challenges. Mūsā, despite being a mighty prophet, humbly sought divine assistance and the support of a loved one. It reminds us that seeking help from righteous companions — family or friends — is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of wisdom and humility. When we call upon Allah, we should ask with sincerity and persistence, just as Mūsā did, and trust that Allah, who sees all, will answer in the best way. This prayer also highlights the importance of unity and cooperation in good deeds — when we work together for a noble cause, we multiply our strength and draw closer to Allah’s pleasure. Let this beautiful supplication inspire you to turn to Allah with your own needs, and to value the support of those who walk with you on the path of faith.
