Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Lan nu'thiraka" — We will never prefer you or give you precedence over something else.
  • "Al-Bayyinat" — The clear, undeniable proofs and evident miracles.
  • "Fatara" — Created us from nothing, originated our very existence.
  • "Iqdi" — Pass your judgment, do whatever you intend to do.
  • "Innama taqdi hadhihi al-hayata al-dunya" — Your authority and judgment are confined solely to this worldly life.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the sorcerers of Pharaoh witnessed the magnificent miracle of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) — his staff transforming into a living serpent that swallowed all their illusions — their hearts were illuminated with the light of truth. They fell into prostration, declaring their faith in the Lord of Musa and Harun. Pharaoh, enraged and threatened, threatened them with the most brutal punishment: he would cut off their hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify them on palm trunks.

Yet their response was not one of fear or hesitation, but of unwavering conviction and profound courage. They said to Pharaoh: "We will never prefer you over the clear signs that have come to us, nor over the One who created us and brought us into existence from nothing." This was a declaration of absolute loyalty to Allah, the Creator, over any created being — no matter how powerful or tyrannical.

They continued: "So pass whatever judgment you wish to pass upon us." This was not arrogance or defiance for its own sake; it was the serene confidence of hearts that have found the ultimate truth and are willing to sacrifice everything for it. They knew that Pharaoh's power, however terrifying, was limited to this fleeting world. His punishment, no matter how severe, would end with death. But the reward of Allah, the eternal bliss of Paradise, is everlasting and far greater than any temporary suffering.

These sorcerers, who had spent their entire lives mastering the art of illusion, recognized the difference between magic and divine truth in an instant. Their transformation is a testament to the power of sincere faith — once the truth becomes clear, no threat, no torture, and no worldly loss can turn a believer away from it.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer. The sorcerers teach us that true faith is not a matter of convenience or circumstance — it is a matter of conviction that transcends all worldly considerations. They were faced with the ultimate test: their lives, their status, their families, everything was on the line. Yet they chose Allah over all of it.

How often do we find ourselves in situations where we are tempted to compromise our faith for worldly gains — a promotion, social acceptance, or the approval of those in power? The example of these brave souls reminds us that no worldly benefit can ever outweigh the pleasure of Allah and the eternal reward He has prepared for those who remain steadfast.

Moreover, their words "we will never prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs" remind us that when the truth is evident, there is no excuse for hesitation. The signs of Allah are all around us — in the Quran, in the universe, in our own creation. Let us be like those sorcerers: quick to recognize the truth, courageous in declaring it, and unwavering in our commitment to it, regardless of the cost.

And let us remember that the power of tyrants, like that of Pharaoh, is always temporary. But the power of Allah is eternal. So place your trust in Him, and never fear the judgment of creation when you have the approval of the Creator.

📜 Verse 70-74 — Taha

So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring."
They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.
Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allah is better and more enduring."
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.
