Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Az-Zabur (الزَّبُور): The divinely revealed scriptures given to the prophets after Musa (Moses), peace be upon him — including the Psalms of Dawud (David) and other heavenly books.
- Adh-Dhikr (الذِّكْر): The Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz), which contains all that Allah has decreed and written from eternity.
- Yarithuha (يَرِثُهَا): To inherit it — meaning to possess it and take it over, just as an heir takes what is left behind.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah Almighty declares a divine decree that was recorded in the heavenly books revealed to His prophets — and even earlier, in the Preserved Tablet itself — that the earth will be inherited by His righteous servants. This is not a mere promise; it is an established, unchangeable truth written by the hand of divine wisdom.
The "righteous servants" referred to here are the believers who fulfill Allah's commands, avoid His prohibitions, and strive in His cause with sincerity. According to the consensus of the scholars of tafsir, this refers specifically to the nation of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — the final and most honored community. They are the ones who will inherit the earth in this world through conquest and establishment of justice, and in the Hereafter through the eternal gardens of Paradise.
This verse carries a powerful message of hope and certainty. It tells us that no matter how difficult circumstances may seem, no matter how powerful the forces of falsehood appear, the ultimate outcome belongs to the righteous. The earth is not for the tyrants, the oppressors, or those who spread corruption — it is for those who worship Allah with sincerity and live by His guidance.
The promise is not limited to a specific time or place; it is a universal law of Allah that has been decreed since eternity. When you see injustice prevailing, remember this divine guarantee. When you feel weak and outnumbered, hold firm to this promise. The righteous will always have the final word, because Allah's word is supreme and His promise never fails.
A Call to the Reader:
Dear reader, this verse invites you to reflect: What does it mean to be among the "righteous servants" who inherit the earth? It means purifying your heart, correcting your intentions, and aligning your actions with what Allah loves. It means being patient in the face of trials, steadfast in worship, and compassionate in dealing with creation. The path to inheriting the earth begins with inheriting your own soul — by submitting it fully to its Creator.
Let this divine promise fill your heart with hope and determination. The world may seem to be in the hands of those who do not remember Allah, but the truth is otherwise. The earth belongs to Allah, and He grants it to whom He wills. And He has willed it for His righteous servants. So strive to be among them, and you will see the fulfillment of this promise in your lifetime and in the life to come — for Allah's promise is true, and His word is the most truthful of all words.
