Tafsir (Explanation):
For every nation and community throughout history, Allah—in His infinite wisdom—has established a distinct set of rites, rituals, and sacred laws suited to their time and circumstances. These were not arbitrary inventions but divine prescriptions, and each people were obligated to observe them faithfully. The essence of all these varied forms was the same: sincere devotion to the One True God.
Now, O Messenger, when the polytheists of Quraysh challenge you regarding your rites—particularly the matter of slaughtering animals for sacrifice, questioning why you eat what you slaughter with your own hands yet refuse to eat what Allah has caused to die naturally (carrion)—do not be drawn into their petty arguments. Their objections stem from ignorance and stubbornness, not from genuine inquiry. Your way is the truth, and their way is falsehood. So stand firm upon what your Lord has commanded you, and do not let their disputations shake your resolve.
Instead of engaging in fruitless debate, continue to call people to your Lord with wisdom and patience. Invite them to the pure worship of Allah alone, to submit their hearts and lives to Him, and to follow the guidance He has revealed. For you, O Prophet, are most certainly upon a path of clear, unerring guidance—a path that is straight, with no deviation or crookedness in it. This path leads directly to the pleasure of Allah and to eternal success in the Hereafter.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is this divine reassurance! When the enemies of truth raise doubts and objections, Allah tells His beloved Prophet—and through him, every believer—to remain steadfast and focused on the greater mission. Do not waste your energy on those who argue for the sake of arguing; rather, invest your efforts in calling hearts to the light of faith. The guidance you possess is not a matter of opinion or conjecture; it is the very truth from the Lord of the worlds. And when you stand upon such a foundation, no opposition can shake you, and no falsehood can prevail against you. Take comfort in this, and let it strengthen your resolve to invite others to the beauty of Islam with confidence, patience, and love.
