Word Meanings:

  • Jādalūk (جادلوك): They argue or dispute with you, specifically in a contentious and obstinate manner, seeking to refute the truth through falsehood.
  • Allāhu A‘lam (الله أعلم): Allah knows best — an expression of complete knowledge that encompasses all things, seen and unseen.
  • Bimā ta‘malūn (بما تعملون): What you do — referring to their deeds, including their persistent disbelief, stubbornness, and false arguments.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the disbelievers persist in arguing with you (O Prophet) after the truth has been made crystal clear — when they refuse to accept the evidence and instead resort to obstinate debate, twisting words and rejecting what is manifest — then do not engage them in futile argumentation. Do not let their hostility drag you into endless disputes that only breed discord. Instead, entrust the matter to Allah and say to them: "Allah knows best what you do." This is not a statement of defeat, but a powerful declaration of certainty. It means: Allah is fully aware of your disbelief, your stubbornness, your false arguments, and your evil intentions. Nothing of your deeds is hidden from Him — not a single word you utter, not a single scheme you devise. He knows the truth of what you conceal in your hearts, and He will surely recompense you for all of it. This statement serves as both a warning and a comfort — a warning to the wrongdoers that their deeds are recorded and will be judged, and a comfort to the believer, who can rest assured that justice will prevail even when people are unjust.

A Call to Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson in wisdom and character. When people argue with you merely for the sake of argument — not seeking truth but determined to oppose it — the best response is not to exhaust yourself in endless debate, but to leave the matter to Allah, who knows all. How beautiful is this guidance! It protects the believer's heart from anxiety and frustration, and it preserves the dignity of the message. Remember, dear reader: your duty is only to convey the truth with clarity and kindness. Guidance is in Allah's hands alone. So when you encounter those who argue without sincerity, say with confidence and peace: "Allah knows best what you do." And let this be a reminder to us all — that Allah is ever watchful over our deeds, and that every soul will be repaid in full for what it has earned. Turn to Him, seek His guidance, and trust in His perfect justice.

📜 Verse 66-70 — Al-Hajj

And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful.
For every religion We have appointed rites which they perform. So, [O Muhammad], let the disbelievers not contend with you over the matter but invite them to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance.
And if they dispute with you, then say, "Allah is most knowing of what you do.
Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which you used to differ."
Do you not know that Allah knows what is in the heaven and earth? Indeed, that is in a Record. Indeed that, for Allah, is easy.
