Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tatra (تَتْرَىٰ): One after another, in succession, without interruption.
- Ahādīth (أَحَادِيثَ): Stories, tales, or legends recounted by later generations.
- Bu‘dan (بُعْدًا): Destruction, ruin, and being cast far away from Allah’s mercy.
Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the sending of earlier prophets like Nūḥ, Hūd, Ṣāliḥ, and others, Allah now declares that He sent His messengers in continuous succession—one after another, without a long gap between them. Every time a messenger came to his people with the truth, they rejected him and called him a liar. They did not learn from the fate of those before them, nor did they accept the guidance brought to them.
Because of their persistent denial, Allah caused them to perish one after another—each nation was destroyed in turn, following the destruction of the one before it. Nothing remained of them except their stories and tales that later generations would recount as lessons and warnings. Their names became synonymous with ruin and punishment. So Allah declares: “Far from mercy and utterly destroyed are the people who refuse to believe!” This is a severe warning and a painful pronouncement of doom upon those who persist in disbelief and reject the messengers of Allah.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: Allah’s messengers came with mercy and guidance, yet their own people met them with rejection. The result was total destruction—not because Allah was unjust, but because they chose falsehood over truth. Today, we have the final message of Islam, preserved in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Will we be among those who accept and follow, or among those who turn away? The choice is ours. Let us open our hearts to the truth, embrace it sincerely, and strive to live by it—so that we may be saved from the fate of those who came before and be granted Allah’s mercy and eternal success. The doors of repentance and guidance are always open; do not delay your return to your Lord.
