Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Tanzīl (تَنزِيلُ): The act of sending down or revealing something from above. Here, it refers to the gradual, divine revelation of the Qur'an.
- Rabb (رَبِّ): The Lord, the Creator, the Sustainer, and the One Who governs and manages all affairs of His creation.
- Al-ʿĀlamīn (الْعَالَمِينَ): All the worlds — every created being and realm, including humans, angels, jinn, animals, plants, the heavens, the earth, and everything that exists.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse stands as a powerful, definitive statement about the origin of the Qur'an. It declares with absolute certainty that this Qur'an — the very Book in which the truthful stories of past prophets and nations have been mentioned — is not the word of a poet, a soothsayer, or a human being. Rather, it is a revelation sent down from the Lord of all the worlds, the Creator and Sovereign of everything that exists.
This means that the Qur'an is not a product of human intellect, culture, or imagination. It is a divine communication, delivered by the trustworthy Angel Gabriel (Jibrīl) to the heart of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He received it, memorized it, understood it, and conveyed it exactly as it was revealed — without alteration, addition, or omission. Its source is the One Who created the heavens and the earth, Who knows the secrets of every soul, and Whose wisdom encompasses all that benefits humanity in both this life and the Hereafter.
The verse emphasizes that this revelation is a mercy and a guidance for all of creation. It was sent down in a clear Arabic tongue so that people might understand its meanings, reflect upon its signs, and reform their lives according to its teachings. It is a Book that addresses the intellect, awakens the conscience, and guides to the straight path — the path of those whom Allah has blessed.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Ponder, dear reader, upon the greatness of this statement. The Qur'an you hold in your hands is not an ordinary book. It is a direct connection between you and your Lord — the Lord of all the worlds. Every letter of it carries divine light, every verse is a treasure of guidance, and every chapter is a door to eternal success. When you recite it, you are speaking the words of the One Who created you. When you ponder it, you are unlocking the wisdom of the One Who knows what is best for you. When you act upon it, you are walking on a path that leads to Paradise.
This verse invites you to reflect: Who but the Lord of all worlds could produce a Book that remains unchanged for over fourteen centuries, that challenges humanity to produce even a single chapter like it, and that continues to transform hearts and civilizations? The Qur'an is the ultimate proof of Allah's love for His creation — He did not leave us in darkness, but sent down His light. So open your heart to this divine message, and let it be the guide of your life. For indeed, in this revelation lies your honor, your peace, and your salvation.
