Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Awalaw ji'tuka" (أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ): "Even if I brought you..." — the particle *aw* here is for denial and astonishment, meaning: "Would you still do this even if...?"
  • "Bishay'in mubeen" (بِشَيْءٍ مُّبِينٍ): "With something clear/evident" — a manifest proof, a decisive sign that makes the truth unmistakably apparent.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) responded to Pharaoh's threat of imprisonment with calm confidence and profound wisdom. He said: "Would you imprison me even if I brought you something that makes the truth absolutely clear?" — meaning, a proof so evident that it leaves no room for doubt or denial. Musa was not merely defending himself; he was inviting Pharaoh to reflect: *Is this how you treat the truth when it comes to you? Do you punish those who bring you certainty?*

This verse captures the essence of Musa's mission — he came with a message backed by divine signs, not empty claims. The phrase "something clear" refers to the miracles Allah had granted him, such as the staff turning into a serpent and his hand shining white, which were undeniable evidences of his prophethood. Musa's tone was not aggressive but assertive; he challenged Pharaoh's arrogance with logic and sincerity, showing that truth does not retreat in the face of tyranny.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a timeless lesson: the believer's strength lies in the clarity of their proof and the certainty of their faith. When you stand for truth, you do not fear threats or intimidation, because your trust is in Allah, the Source of all truth. Musa faced the most powerful tyrant of his time, yet he spoke with the confidence of one who knows that falsehood, no matter how mighty, will always collapse before the light of divine guidance.

For us today, this is a call to present Islam with *mubeen* — with clarity, wisdom, and evidence. When people ask about our faith, we should respond with knowledge and kindness, showing them the beauty of the Qur'an and the rationality of Islam. And when we face opposition, we should remember Musa's example: remain firm, remain polite, and never let the arrogance of others shake your conviction. The truth is self-evident; it only needs a heart willing to see it.

📜 Verse 28-32 — Ash-Shu'ara

28قَالَ رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."
29قَالَ لَئِنِ اتَّخَذْتَ إِلَٰهًا غَيْرِي لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ الْمَسْجُونِينَ
[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."
30قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُّبِينٍ
[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?"
31قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."
32فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.
