قِيلَ لَهَا ادْخُلِي الصَّرْحَ ۖ فَلَمَّا رَأَتْهُ حَسِبَتْهُ لُجَّةً وَكَشَفَتْ عَن سَاقَيْهَا ۚ قَالَ إِنَّهُ صَرْحٌ مُّمَرَّدٌ مِّن قَوَارِيرَ ۗ قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَأَسْلَمْتُ مَعَ سُلَيْمَانَ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝٤٤

Qeela lahad khulis sarha falammaa ra at hu hasibat hu lujjatanw wa khashafat `an saaqaihaa; qaala innahoo sarhum mumarradum min qawaareer; qaalat Rabbi innee zalamtu nafsee wa aslamtu ma`a Sulaimaana lillaahi Rabbil `aalameen

She was told, "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her shins [to wade through]. He said, "Indeed, it is a palace [whose floor is] made smooth with glass." She said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds."

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Al-Sarh (الصَّرْح): A palace or a lofty, spacious building.
Lujjah (لُجَّة): A vast body of water, such as a deep sea or a large expanse of water with waves.
Mumarrad (مُمَّرَد): Made perfectly smooth and even, polished to a flawless finish.
Qawarir (قَوَارِير): Crystal-clear glass.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the Queen of Sheba arrived at the court of Prophet Sulayman (peace be upon him), she was invited to enter the palace. The palace had a floor made of transparent, polished glass, beneath which water was flowing. As she stepped forward, she saw what appeared to be a deep expanse of water with waves rippling across it. Naturally, she lifted her garments and uncovered her legs to wade through what she thought was water. At that moment, Sulayman (peace be upon him) gently clarified, "This is not water; it is a palace paved with smooth, clear glass, and the water you see is merely beneath the floor."

This remarkable sight opened her eyes to the extraordinary power and wisdom granted by Allah to His Prophet. She realized that the kingdom and wisdom of Sulayman were far beyond anything she had imagined, and that such wonders could only be achieved through divine support. Overwhelmed with awe and conviction, she turned to her Lord in sincere repentance and declared, "My Lord, I have wronged my soul by worshipping other than You. Now, I submit wholeheartedly with Sulayman to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds."

42فَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ قِيلَ أَهَٰكَذَا عَرْشُكِ ۖ قَالَتْ كَأَنَّهُ هُوَ ۚ وَأُوتِينَا الْعِلْمَ مِن قَبْلِهَا وَكُنَّا مُسْلِمِينَ

So when she arrived, it was said [to her], "Is your throne like this?" She said, "[It is] as though it was it." [Solomon said], "And we were given knowledge before her, and we have been Muslims [in submission to Allah].

43وَصَدَّهَا مَا كَانَت تَّعْبُدُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ مِن قَوْمٍ كَافِرِينَ

And that which she was worshipping other than Allah had averted her [from submission to Him]. Indeed, she was from a disbelieving people."

44قِيلَ لَهَا ادْخُلِي الصَّرْحَ ۖ فَلَمَّا رَأَتْهُ حَسِبَتْهُ لُجَّةً وَكَشَفَتْ عَن سَاقَيْهَا ۚ قَالَ إِنَّهُ صَرْحٌ مُّمَرَّدٌ مِّن قَوَارِيرَ ۗ قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَأَسْلَمْتُ مَعَ سُلَيْمَانَ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

45وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ فَإِذَا هُمْ فَرِيقَانِ يَخْتَصِمُونَ

And We had certainly sent to Thamud their brother Salih, [saying], "Worship Allah," and at once they were two parties conflicting.

46قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ ۖ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil instead of good? Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allah that you may receive mercy?"
