Explanation of the Verse:
This verse exposes the true nature of those who swear solemn oaths but harbor corrupt intentions. Their oaths are not born out of sincerity or a genuine quest for truth; rather, they stem from arrogance in the land and a desire to deceive others through wicked schemes. They think they can outsmart the divine plan, but they are gravely mistaken.
Allah, in His perfect justice, declares that evil plotting does not backfire on anyone except its own authors. The harm of deception and arrogance returns to the one who devised it, like a boomerang that strikes its thrower. The wicked schemer may think he is harming others, but in reality, he is only digging his own grave.
Then the verse poses a profound question: Are these arrogant plotters waiting for anything except the same fate that befell the nations before them? The divine law is unchanging and unalterable. Those who came before them—like ʿĀd, Thamūd, and Pharaoh—were destroyed for their arrogance and evil schemes. The same fate awaits those who persist in the same path.
Finally, Allah assures us that His established way is absolute. You will never find any change in Allah’s practice, nor will you find any shift in it. The punishment for arrogance and wickedness is inevitable; it cannot be diverted to someone else, nor can it be replaced with something else. This is a divine guarantee of justice.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a powerful reminder that no one can escape the consequences of their actions. Allah’s justice is perfect and His laws are immutable. If you find yourself tempted by arrogance or tempted to scheme against others, remember that such behavior only harms its author. The universe operates on divine principles that never fail.
But there is also a beautiful message here for the believer: if you are patient and trust in Allah, know that the plots of the wicked will never succeed. You do not need to repay evil with evil, for Allah Himself will deal with the oppressors. Your duty is to remain steadfast, sincere, and humble, for humility is the path to Allah’s mercy, while arrogance leads only to destruction.
Let this verse inspire you to purify your intentions, abandon all forms of deceit, and place your complete trust in Allah’s unchanging justice. The Qur’an is not merely a book to be read; it is a guide to salvation. Embrace its teachings, and you will find peace in this life and the next.
