Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Afalā (أَفَلَا): "Then will you not..." — a rhetorical question that stirs the mind and conscience.
  • Tadhakkarūn (تَذَكَّرُونَ): "Remember / take heed / reflect" — it implies using one's intellect to recall the truth and be moved by it, not merely to think casually.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a powerful rhetorical rebuke directed at those who claim that Allah, the Almighty, has a child or partner. It calls upon their very intellect and inner sense of reason: "Will you not reflect and take heed?" The meaning is: Do you not use your minds to realize how utterly impossible and inappropriate it is for Allah—the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Self-Sufficient, the Eternal—to have a son? Such a claim contradicts His absolute perfection, His oneness, and His majesty. If they truly paused to think, they would see the falsehood of their belief, for reflection leads to the clear truth: Allah is far above any need for offspring, and He is glorified beyond anything they ascribe to Him. The verse is a gentle yet firm invitation to wake up from heedlessness and let reason guide them to the pure faith of monotheism.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is not just a historical rebuke—it is a timeless call to every soul. Allah is asking *you*: Will you not reflect? How often do we rush through life without pausing to think about the greatness of our Creator? How often do we accept ideas without questioning them, or follow traditions without checking them against the light of reason and revelation? Islam is the religion of the mind—it challenges you to think, to ponder, and to seek the truth. When you reflect on the universe around you—the stars, the oceans, the miracle of your own existence—you will find countless signs pointing to one God, alone, without partner or child. Let this verse be a spark that ignites your curiosity and draws you closer to the beauty of tawheed (the oneness of Allah). For the heart that reflects is the heart that finds peace, and the mind that seeks truth is the mind that Allah guides. So, will you not take heed today?

📜 Verse 153-157 — As-Saffat

153أَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَنِينَ
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
154مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?
155أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Then will you not be reminded?
156أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
Or do you have a clear authority?
157فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.
