Word Meanings:

  • Sulṭān (سُلْطَان): Authority, proof, or clear evidence; a decisive argument that establishes the truth of a claim.
  • Mubīn (مُبِين): Manifest, evident, or unmistakably clear; something that leaves no room for doubt.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse addresses those who make the grave and false claim that Allah has a child—may He be exalted far above what they ascribe to Him. The question is posed to them in a challenging, rhetorical manner: "Or do you have clear authority or undeniable proof for what you say?"

The meaning is: Do you possess a decisive argument, a written scripture, or a messenger sent by Allah that supports your claim? Do you have any evidence that is so clear and luminous that it removes all ambiguity and compels rational minds to accept it? The answer, of course, is an emphatic no. They have nothing but baseless conjecture, inherited falsehood, and blind imitation of their forefathers.

The verse exposes the emptiness of their position. If they truly believed in their claim, they would need to produce something concrete—like a revealed book or a divine message—but they have neither. This is a powerful reminder that every claim about Allah, His nature, and His attributes must be built upon revelation and sound reasoning, not upon whims or cultural traditions.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse invites every seeker of truth to reflect on the purity of Islamic monotheism. Islam calls people to worship Allah alone, free from any partners, children, or equals—a concept that aligns perfectly with sound intellect and the natural disposition (fiṭrah) of every human being. The Qur’an repeatedly challenges humanity to bring proof for its beliefs, because true faith is not blind; it is grounded in certainty and evidence.

When you contemplate the universe—its perfect order, its breathtaking precision, and its boundless beauty—you realize that the Creator is One, Unique, and utterly unlike His creation. He is not born, nor does He give birth, and there is nothing comparable to Him. This pure understanding of Allah fills the heart with awe, love, and peace. It liberates the soul from superstition and elevates the mind to the highest level of certainty.

So, dear reader, let this verse be a call to you: examine your beliefs, seek the truth with sincerity, and you will find that Islam—the religion of all prophets, from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all)—is the only path that satisfies both the intellect and the heart. It is the path of clear proof, divine guidance, and eternal success.
