- Ibtigha' (ابْتِغَاء): Seeking, pursuing, or striving for.
- Al-Qawm (الْقَوْم): The people — here referring to the enemy (the disbelievers).

- Tarjuna (تَرْجُونَ): You hope, expect, or aspire for.
Explanation of the Verse:
O believers, do not let weakness or laziness creep into your hearts when it comes to pursuing your enemy and striving against them. Do not give up, even after hardship, injury, or loss. If you are feeling pain — from wounds, fatigue, or the trials of battle — then know that your enemy feels pain just as you do. They suffer from the very same hardships, and they endure them. So do not let their endurance surpass yours, and do not let your resolve crumble while they remain steadfast in their hostility.
But here lies the profound difference between you and them: while they suffer and struggle with no higher purpose, you — the believers — have something they do not. You hope for what they cannot even imagine. You hope for the reward of Allah, His victory, His support, and His pleasure. You believe in the Hereafter, in the eternal bliss that awaits the patient and the righteous. They have no such hope, for they do not believe in the resurrection or the reckoning. Their pain is empty and leads to nothing but loss, while your pain is a means of purification, elevation, and immense reward.
So be patient, be steadfast, and do not waver. For Allah is All-Knowing of your conditions, your intentions, and your struggles. He is All-Wise in His commands, His decrees, and His planning. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and everything He ordains is for your ultimate good.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, this verse is a timeless lesson in resilience and faith. When life becomes difficult — when you face trials, opposition, or hardship in the path of Allah — remember that your enemy or your circumstances also suffer. Pain is universal, but hope is not. You carry within you a light that no hardship can extinguish: the hope of Allah's reward, His mercy, and His eternal paradise. This hope transforms your struggle into worship, your patience into victory, and your pain into a means of drawing closer to your Lord.
So never lose heart. Rise again after every fall. Keep striving for what is right, keep seeking the pleasure of Allah, and know that He sees your efforts and rewards them in ways you cannot imagine. The road may be long, but the destination is glorious — and your Lord is with you, ever watchful, ever wise.
