Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse unveils the true nature of the hypocrites—those who dwell among the believers but carry hearts full of deceit. They are perpetual watchers, waiting to see which way the wind blows. They do not stand firmly with the truth; rather, they position themselves to benefit from any outcome.
When Allah grants the believers a victory—a triumph on the battlefield or the spoils of war—the hypocrites rush forward, claiming, "Were we not with you?" They seek to share in the glory and the gains, pretending they had always been on your side, hoping to reap what they never sowed.
But when the disbelievers gain the upper hand, even temporarily, the hypocrites turn to them and say, "Did we not gain mastery over you and protect you from the believers?" They boast of having secretly aided the enemies of Islam, feeding them information and discouraging the believers from fighting them—all in a desperate attempt to secure their own safety and worldly interests.
Allah, the All-Knowing and Just, declares that He will judge between you and them on the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, every hidden intention will be exposed, and every deed—whether open or concealed—will be weighed with perfect justice. The hypocrites will receive their due punishment in the lowest depths of the Fire, while the sincere believers will be rewarded with eternal bliss.
The verse concludes with a profound and comforting divine promise: Allah will never grant the disbelievers a way over the believers. This means that in the grand scheme of things, the ultimate victory belongs to the people of faith. Temporary setbacks may occur in this world, but they are tests and trials, not signs of Allah's abandonment. The final triumph, in this life and the Hereafter, is reserved for the righteous.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear believer, let this verse fill your heart with certainty and hope. The hypocrites of every era are the same—they waver, they deceive, and they chase after worldly gains. But Allah's promise is true: the believers are never left without His support. Even when the path seems difficult, remember that Allah's judgment is perfect, and His promise is unbreakable. Hold firm to your faith, be sincere in your deeds, and trust that Allah will never abandon His sincere servants. The end is always for the righteous, for Allah has decreed that the light of truth will overcome the darkness of falsehood.
