Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Zāhirīn): Prevailing, dominant, victorious, having the upper hand.
(Ba’s): Punishment, severe affliction, or divine retribution.
(Sabīl al-Rashād): The path of right guidance, correctness, and success.

Tafsir (Explanation):

The believing man from the family of Pharaoh—who had secretly embraced faith—turned to his people with a sincere and urgent appeal. He reminded them of their current reality: "O my people! Today the kingdom is yours, prevailing in the land of Egypt." They were mighty, with authority over the Children of Israel and others, enjoying power and dominance. But then he posed a profound and sobering question: "Who will protect us from the punishment of Allah if it comes upon us?" This was a direct warning—if they persisted in their hostility toward Prophet Musa (Moses) and rejected the truth, and if divine punishment were to descend, none of their power, armies, or wealth could shield them. No ruler, no force, no earthly authority could stand against the might of Allah.

This was a moment of profound wisdom and sincere counsel. The believer was not merely debating; he was awakening their consciences. He was saying: You are powerful today, but power is fleeting. You may rule now, but the One who grants power can also strip it away. The question was not hypothetical—it was a call to reflect on their vulnerability before the Creator.

Then Pharaoh responded, not with logic or evidence, but with arrogance and stubbornness. He said: "I only show you what I see (as correct), and I only guide you to the path of right conduct." In other words, he was asserting that his opinion was the only valid one, and his decision—to kill Musa—was the right course of action. He dismissed the believer's warning and insisted that his way was the path of success. But this was nothing but pride and delusion, for Pharaoh was not guided by Allah, and his "guidance" was nothing but misguidance wrapped in the cloak of authority.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This scene from the Qur'an teaches us a timeless lesson: sincere advice, even when delivered with wisdom and compassion, may be rejected by those who are blinded by pride and power. The believing man did his duty—he warned, he advised, and he left the outcome to Allah. As Muslims, we must never tire of calling to the truth, even when the response is harsh. Our responsibility is to convey, and the guidance is from Allah alone.

Moreover, this verse reminds us of the fleeting nature of worldly power. No matter how dominant we become, we are always in need of Allah's protection. True success lies not in the strength of our armies or the extent of our rule, but in our obedience to Allah and our alignment with His will. Let us learn from this story: never let pride prevent us from accepting the truth, and never let the love of power blind us to the reality that every soul will stand before its Lord. The path of rashad—right guidance—is open to all who are willing to listen, reflect, and submit.

📜 Verse 27-31 — Ghafir

But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account."
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants.
