Word Meanings:

  • Al-Ahzab (الأحزاب): The "Confederates" or "Allied Parties" — referring to the nations and groups that united against their prophets in past times, such as the people of Nuh, 'Ad, Thamud, and others who gathered to oppose and fight the messengers sent to them.

Tafsir (Interpretation):

The believing man from the family of Pharaoh — who had concealed his faith — turned to his people with sincere counsel and deep concern, saying: "O my people! Indeed, I fear for you — if you persist in your intention to kill Moses and reject his message — a punishment similar to what befell the nations of the past who united against their prophets."

He was warning them that their plot against Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) would not be the first of its kind. Throughout history, many groups and alliances had gathered together to oppose the messengers of Allah, forming powerful coalitions to extinguish the light of truth. Yet, every single one of them was destroyed by Allah's punishment when they crossed the limits. The believer was pointing out that Pharaoh and his chiefs were not stronger than those who came before them, nor could they escape Allah's wrath if they continued on this path of arrogance and transgression.

This is a profound lesson for all of humanity: when people unite upon falsehood and oppose the truth, their unity will not protect them from Allah's decree. The believer was not merely delivering a threat — he was extending a hand of mercy, hoping to awaken their hearts before it was too late. He loved his people and did not wish to see them destroyed, even though they were his enemies in faith.

Reflection and Da'wah:

This verse carries a timeless message for every believer: sincere advice and concern for others, even those who oppose us, is a hallmark of true faith. The believing man from Pharaoh's family did not abandon his people or curse them — he warned them with compassion, hoping they would return to Allah. This teaches us that our mission as Muslims is to call others to goodness with wisdom and sincere care, not with arrogance or hatred.

Moreover, the verse reminds us that no power, alliance, or worldly strength can protect anyone from Allah's punishment. The greatest security lies in obedience to Allah and following His messengers. Let us take heed from the fate of the past nations and hasten to repentance before the punishment arrives, for Allah is Most Merciful to those who turn back to Him, and His punishment is severe upon those who persist in transgression.

📜 Verse 28-32 — Ghafir

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants.
And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling -
