Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمْ (Rabbi wa Rabbukum): My Lord and your Lord — the One who creates, sustains, and governs all affairs.
- فَاعْبُدُوهُ (Fa'buduhu): So worship Him — devote all acts of obedience, love, and submission exclusively to Him.
- صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ (Siratun Mustaqeem): A straight path — a clear, upright way with no deviation or crookedness.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) declares to his people the essence of his message — a message that echoes the call of all prophets before him. He proclaims: "Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord." With these words, Jesus affirms his complete servitude to Allah and clarifies that he is not a deity to be worshipped, but a servant and messenger of the One True God. He then commands: "So worship Him" — meaning, direct all your acts of devotion, prayer, and submission solely to Allah, and associate no partners with Him. This pure monotheism (Tawheed) is the foundation of faith that every prophet brought to their nations.
Jesus then concludes: "This is a straight path." He points to the path of sincere worship of Allah alone as the only way that leads to salvation and eternal success. It is the path of truth, free from the crookedness of polytheism and the deviations of those who exaggerated in their religion — whether by elevating Jesus himself to divinity or by inventing doctrines that contradict the clear revelation of Allah.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder the beauty of this verse: Jesus, a mighty prophet of Allah, stands before his people and declares his own servitude, directing all worship to his Creator alone. This is the universal message of Islam — the same message brought by Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and finally Muhammad (peace be upon them all). It is a message of clarity, purity, and liberation from the shackles of associating partners with Allah.
When you embrace this truth, you align yourself with the natural disposition (fitrah) upon which Allah created every human being. You free your heart from confusion and your soul from the burdens of false worship. The straight path is not complicated — it is simply to know that Allah is your Lord, to worship Him alone, and to follow His guidance with sincerity. This is the key to peace in this life and success in the Hereafter. So take hold of this truth firmly, and let it illuminate your journey toward your Creator.
