- "Tasu'kum" — It would distress/grieve you (due to the burden it would impose).

- "Afa Allahu 'anha" — Allah has pardoned/overlooked those matters (i.e., He did not legislate them).

Tafsir (Explanation):
O believers who have sincerely embraced faith in Allah and His Messenger, and who strive to live by His guidance — do not bombard your Prophet ﷺ with questions about matters that Allah has not commanded you to ask about, especially those that are not yet occurring or that carry no benefit for your religion and worldly life. If such matters were to be made known to you and you were obligated to act upon them, they would only bring you hardship and distress. The Prophet ﷺ himself discouraged excessive questioning, saying: "What I have left you with, then take it; and what I have forbidden you from, then avoid it. And do not ask about things I have not mentioned, for indeed, those before you were destroyed by their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their prophets."
If you insist on asking about such matters while the Qur'an is being revealed — during the lifetime of the Messenger ﷺ — then those matters will be made clear to you, and you may find yourselves obligated to follow rulings that are heavy upon you. Indeed, Allah has graciously pardoned these matters and left them unlegislated out of His mercy for you. He has not burdened you with them, so do not reopen what He has closed. The companions once asked the Prophet ﷺ about matters that, had they been answered, would have become obligatory upon them — and the Prophet ﷺ said: "Allah has pardoned them, so do not ask about them."
And know that Allah is Oft-Forgiving — He forgives the sins of His servants when they repent — and He is Most Forbearing, not hastening to punish you for the excesses that may slip from you, but rather giving you time to turn back to Him in humility and obedience.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a beautiful manifestation of Allah's mercy and care for His servants. He protects us from unnecessary burdens and guides us to focus on what truly matters: sincere faith, righteous action, and gratitude for His favors. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Leave me as I have left you (i.e., do not ask about what I have not mentioned), for indeed those before you were destroyed by their excessive questioning and their opposition to their prophets." So let us be a community that embraces the clear guidance of the Qur'an and Sunnah with contentment, refraining from overstepping into matters that Allah has deliberately left unlegislated — for in that silence lies His mercy, and in His mercy lies our success. Allah loves for us to ask Him in supplication for our needs, but He does not love for us to burden ourselves with speculative questions that only breed difficulty. Turn to Him with gratitude, trust His wisdom, and know that He is always ready to forgive and always gentle in His dealings with His servants.
