Tafsir (Explanation):
In this noble verse, Allah the Exalted tells us about His continuous mercy and guidance to humanity. After sending a succession of prophets to the Children of Israel, He followed their footsteps with Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), the son of Mary. Jesus came not to destroy or contradict what came before him, but as a confirmer of the Torah — affirming its truth, believing in it, and judging by its laws except for what Allah allowed him to abrogate. This shows the beautiful continuity of divine revelation: one message, one source, one purpose — to guide humanity to their Creator.
Then Allah bestowed upon Jesus the Gospel (Injeel), a book containing guidance to the truth, directing people to the straight path, and light that illuminates hearts and removes doubts and confusion. It clarified what the people had differed over and explained the rulings they had obscured or forgotten. The Gospel was also a confirmer of the Torah that preceded it, and a guidance and admonition for the God-conscious — those who fear Allah, obey His commands, and avoid His prohibitions. Such people are the ones who truly benefit from divine revelation, for their hearts are open and receptive.
This verse beautifully demonstrates that all prophets and scriptures came from the same divine source, calling to the same essential message: pure monotheism and submission to Allah. The succession of prophets — from Noah, Abraham, Moses, to Jesus, and finally the seal of prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon them all) — shows Allah's unwavering care for His creation. He never left humanity without guidance, sending messenger after messenger, book after book, until the final and complete revelation, the Quran, was sent down.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, contemplate the mercy of your Lord! He did not abandon you to wander in darkness. He sent prophets to light your way, and books to guide your steps. The Gospel confirmed the Torah, and the Quran — the final scripture — confirms all that came before it, while completing the religion and perfecting the message. This unbroken chain of guidance is a testament to Allah's profound love for humanity.
Today, the Quran stands as the preserved, unaltered word of Allah, containing within it the essence of all previous revelations. It is a light that never dims, a guidance that never misleads, and an admonition for all who are conscious of their Lord. Open your heart to it, read it with reflection, and let its verses transform your life. For in it lies your success in this world and your salvation in the Hereafter. Let this verse inspire you to appreciate the gift of divine guidance and to live as one of the muttaqin — those who are ever mindful of Allah, walking in His light, and yearning for His pleasure.
