Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- 'Ād: The ancient tribe of 'Ād, descendants of 'Ād ibn Iram ibn 'Ām, who lived in the sandy hills of Al-Ahqāf in southern Arabia. They were a people of great physical strength and prosperity.
- Nudhur (My warnings): The repeated warnings delivered through Prophet Hūd (peace be upon him), which they rejected and mocked.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The tribe of 'Ād denied their Prophet Hūd (peace be upon him) and rejected the message of monotheism he brought. They were a mighty nation, blessed with towering stature, abundant wealth, and fertile lands—yet their arrogance led them to stubbornly refuse the truth. When Hūd warned them of Allah's punishment, they scoffed and challenged him to bring it upon them.
So Allah sent upon them a furious, freezing wind that raged for seven nights and eight days, destroying everything in its path—leaving them like hollow palm trunks, scattered and lifeless. Now, reflect, O reader: how severe was Allah's punishment for their denial? And how effective were His warnings, which came true exactly as promised? The punishment was not merely a light affliction—it was a devastating, painful destruction that left no trace of their former glory. This stands as a timeless lesson that Allah's warnings are true, His justice is certain, and no power can withstand His decree.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, the story of 'Ād is not just ancient history—it is a living sign for every generation. Their crime was not ignorance; they knew the truth but chose arrogance over humility. They trusted in their strength, yet their strength could not save them from even a single gust of Allah's command. Today, we see similar arrogance in those who reject the message of Islam, relying on wealth, technology, or military might. But the Qur'an asks us: *"Have they not traveled through the earth and seen how was the end of those before them?"* (Yūsuf: 109). Let this verse awaken your heart—do not let pride blind you as it blinded 'Ād. The same Allah who punished them is watching over us now. His mercy is vast for those who repent, but His justice is swift for those who persist in denial. Embrace the truth today, before the warning becomes a reality you cannot escape.
