Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُسْحَبُونَ (yushaboona): They are dragged or pulled forcibly.
- عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ (ala wujoo-him): Upon their faces — a humiliating posture of utter degradation.
- مَسَّ سَقَرَ (massa saqar): The touch of the scorching Fire of Saqar (one of the names of Hell), meaning the searing heat and torment that directly reaches them.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that dreadful Day, the criminals who denied the truth and persisted in their arrogance will be dragged through the Fire upon their faces — not walking, not standing, but pulled mercilessly across the burning ground. Their faces, the most honored part of a human being, will be the very part that touches the scorching surface, adding to their humiliation and pain. As they are being dragged, they will be told with sharp rebuke: "Taste the touch of Saqar!" — meaning, experience the direct contact of Hellfire's burning heat and its painful reality. This is not a mere threat; it is a certain consequence of their choices in this worldly life, where they rejected guidance and mocked the truth.
A Call to Reflection:
This vivid scene is a stark reminder from the Most Merciful, who warns us out of His love so that we may turn back before it is too late. Imagine the contrast: in this life, we walk with our heads held high, proud of our status and heedless of our Creator. But on that Day, the very faces that once turned away from the truth will be dragged in the dust of Hellfire. Yet, the door of repentance is open right now. Allah, the Most Kind, has not yet sealed your fate. He invites you to come back to Him, to worship Him, and to seek His forgiveness, so that you may never experience that touch of Fire. Let this warning soften your heart and guide your steps toward the path of peace and eternal success — the path of Islam. For indeed, the One who warns you of the Fire is the same One who has prepared for His righteous servants gardens of bliss, where they will dwell forever, never to be touched by harm. Choose wisely, for today you have the choice; tomorrow, the choice will be gone.
