Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- آلَاء (Ālā’): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
- رَبِّكُمَا (Rabbikumā): Your Lord — addressed to both mankind and jinn.
- تُكَذِّبَانِ (Tukadhdhibān): You both deny or reject.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a powerful rhetorical question that Allah repeats throughout Surah Ar-Rahman, addressing both humanity and jinn together. Allah asks: "So which of the favors of your Lord do you both deny?"
The question is not seeking information — Allah knows all. Rather, it is a profound challenge that stirs the conscience. It reminds every human and every jinn that the blessings of Allah are countless, visible in every breath, every heartbeat, every provision, and every moment of existence. From the sun that rises each morning to the rain that revives the earth, from the food that sustains you to the faith that guides your heart — all of it is His mercy.
The repetition of this verse throughout the surah serves as a rhythmic awakening. Each time it comes, it follows a different category of blessings — the creation of the heavens and the earth, the seas and their treasures, the fruits and the grains, the comfort of family and the beauty of paradise. After each reminder, the question strikes like a gentle but firm knock on the heart: "So which of these blessings can you possibly deny?"
This verse carries a profound lesson: denial of Allah’s blessings is not only in words but also in actions. When we use His gifts in disobedience, we are, in effect, denying their true purpose. When we forget the Giver and focus only on the gift, we fall into ingratitude. When we see His signs and turn away, we reject His favor.
Yet the verse is also an invitation. It calls you to pause, reflect, and count the blessings around you. It softens the heart to gratitude, and gratitude draws you closer to Allah. The more you recognize His favors, the more your love for Him grows, and the more your life becomes an act of worship.
So, dear reader — look around you. Look at your health, your family, your faith, your very existence. Which of your Lord’s blessings can you deny? None. And for that, all praise belongs to Him alone. Let this verse be a daily reminder to live in gratitude, for gratitude opens the doors of more blessings and brings peace to the soul.
