Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Wajh (وجه): Face — affirmed as an attribute of Allah in a manner befitting His majesty, without likening it to creation or asking "how."
- Dhul-Jalāl (ذو الجلال): Possessor of absolute majesty, grandeur, and supremacy.
- Wal-Ikrām (والإكرام): Possessor of generosity, honor, and the One who bestows dignity upon His righteous servants.
Explanation of the Verse:
This profound verse follows the declaration that all beings on earth are destined to perish, and it stands as a timeless anchor of hope and certainty. Allah, the Most High, proclaims: *"And there will remain the Face of your Lord, the Possessor of Majesty and Honor."*
Everything in this world — every living soul, every creature, every power, every kingdom — will inevitably fade away. Death is an inescapable reality for all of creation. Yet, in the midst of this universal transience, Allah directs our hearts to the One Reality that never ends: His own eternal, ever-living Self. The "Face" of Allah is an attribute that befits His perfection — not a physical limb as in creation, but a true attribute that He affirmed for Himself, and we accept it as He described, without distortion, without denial, without asking "how," and without likening it to anything else.
He is Dhul-Jalāl — the Owner of all glory, grandeur, and absolute majesty. Every form of greatness in this universe is but a faint shadow of His infinite splendor. And He is Wal-Ikrām — the One who honors His believing servants, who showers them with His grace, and who will welcome the righteous into His eternal mercy with generosity beyond measure.
This verse is a divine call to detach your heart from what is temporary and to anchor it in what is everlasting. When you witness the decay of this world — the loss of loved ones, the collapse of empires, the fading of youth — remember that your Lord remains, unchanging and eternal. He is the Living One who never dies, the Majestic who never diminishes, and the Generous who never withholds.
Let this truth transform your life: if you seek honor, seek it from the Possessor of Honor. If you seek permanence, invest in what pleases the Everlasting One. For every deed done for His sake, every word spoken in His remembrance, and every step taken toward His obedience will endure when all else crumbles. This is the ultimate hope — that in the end, what remains is not your wealth, your status, or your name, but your connection to the One whose Face is full of majesty and honor. So turn to Him now, before the moment when only He remains, and let your heart find rest in the Eternal.
