Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Maa' (الْمَاءَ): The fresh, sweet water that quenches thirst and sustains life.
- Tashraboon (تَشْرَبُونَ): That which you drink to satisfy your need and keep yourselves alive.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most Merciful, turns our attention to one of the most essential blessings we often take for granted: the water we drink. He asks us, in a manner that awakens our consciousness: "Have you considered the water that you drink?" This is not merely a question of observation, but an invitation to deep reflection.
Think about it: Who brings down this water from the clouds to the earth? Who makes it fresh, pure, and suitable for your life and the life of every creature on this planet? Is it you who controls the rain, the rivers, and the springs? Or is it Allah, the All-Powerful, who sends it down as a mercy from Him?
The water you drink is not something you created or produced. You did not cause the clouds to gather, nor did you command the rain to fall. You did not purify it in a way that makes it perfectly fit for your body's needs. It is Allah alone who sends it down, stores it in the earth, and makes it flow to you — all out of His immense kindness and care for His creation.
This verse calls upon every human being to pause and reflect: if Allah were to make this water salty or undrinkable, who could change it back to sweet and fresh? If He were to withhold the rain, who could bring it? This is a powerful reminder of our utter dependence on Allah and His absolute control over all affairs.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, every sip of water you take is a living sign of Allah's existence, His mercy, and His power. When you drink, let your heart remember the One who provided it. Let this simple act become a moment of gratitude and worship. The One who gives you water to drink is the same One who gives you life, guidance, and salvation. He invites you to know Him, to thank Him, and to submit to Him — for in that submission lies true peace and success in this life and the Hereafter. So, look at the water in your glass and see in it the proof of your Creator's boundless love for you.
