Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- سَبَّحَ (Sabbaha): To declare Allah free from every imperfection, deficiency, or anything that does not befit His majesty. It is to glorify and exalt Him above all shortcomings.
- مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ: Everything that exists in the heavens and the earth — including all creatures, angels, humans, jinn, animals, plants, and inanimate objects.
- الْعَزِيزُ (Al-‘Azeez): The Almighty, the All-Powerful, the One who is never overcome or defeated.
- الْحَكِيمُ (Al-Hakeem): The All-Wise, the One who places everything in its perfect and proper place, in His creation, His commands, and His decree.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse opens Surah As-Saff with a universal declaration of praise and glorification to Allah alone. Every single being in the heavens and the earth — from the mightiest angel to the smallest ant, from the towering mountains to the tiniest particle — is engaged in glorifying Allah, the Exalted. They all declare His perfection and absolve Him of any flaw, weakness, or deficiency.
This is not merely a statement of fact; it is a profound reminder that the entire universe is in a state of submission and worship of its Creator. The very existence of creation, with its order, harmony, and precision, is a living testimony to Allah's perfection. When you look at the sky, the stars, the oceans, and all that they contain, you are witnessing a silent yet continuous glorification of Allah.
Then Allah describes Himself with two of His most beautiful attributes: Al-‘Azeez (the Almighty) and Al-Hakeem (the All-Wise). He is the Almighty whose power knows no bounds — no one can overcome Him, and nothing happens in His dominion except by His will. He is the All-Wise in everything He does — in His creation, His legislation, and His decree. His wisdom is absolute, and His actions are always perfect, even if we do not fully comprehend them.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, when you recite this verse, let it awaken your heart. If every atom in the universe is glorifying Allah, how can you, as a conscious and rational being, remain heedless? Your tongue should never tire of saying *SubhanAllah* (Glory be to Allah), and your heart should always be connected to your Lord in gratitude and praise.
This verse also brings comfort to the believer: since Allah is Al-‘Azeez, the Almighty, then His religion will prevail, and His promise is true. And since He is Al-Hakeem, the All-Wise, then everything that happens in your life — whether ease or hardship — is part of a perfect divine plan. So trust Him, submit to Him, and join the entire universe in glorifying His name. Let your life be a living *tasbeeh* (glorification) of Allah through your words, your actions, and your sincerity. This is the path of true success — in this world and the Hereafter.
