Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tamayyazu (تَمَيَّزُ): To split apart, burst, or break into pieces.
  • Ghayz (الْغَيْظِ): Intense rage, fury, or wrath.
  • Fawj (فَوْجٌ): A group, multitude, or company of people.
  • Khazanatuha (خَزَنَتُهَا): The keepers or guardians of Hellfire—the angels appointed to manage it.
  • Nadheer (نَذِيرٌ): A warner—a Messenger or Prophet sent to warn people of Allah’s punishment.

Explanation of the Verse:

Imagine a fire so furious that it nearly tears itself apart from sheer rage—this is the image Allah paints of Hellfire in this verse. It is not a passive, silent punishment; it is a living, seething entity that burns with anger against those who rejected the truth. The verse says that Hell almost bursts into pieces from its intense wrath toward the disbelievers who are cast into it.

Then comes a scene of profound accountability: every time a new group of sinners is thrown into the Fire, its keepers—the stern angels appointed by Allah—ask them a piercing question: *"Did there not come to you a warner?"* This is not a question of ignorance but of rebuke and reproach. It is a reminder that no soul can claim ignorance on that Day. Every nation received a Messenger, every generation heard the call to truth, and every person was given a chance to turn back to Allah.

This question carries a weight of regret for the dwellers of Hell. They are confronted with their own negligence—they were warned, but they mocked the warners, denied the signs, and followed their desires instead. The angels' question exposes their guilt and leaves them without any excuse.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is a wake-up call from the Most Merciful. Allah is not telling us this to frighten us aimlessly, but to guide us toward salvation. The very fact that you are reading these words today means that a warner has reached you—the Quran itself, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the countless reminders around you. You are not among those who can say, "No one told me."

So, what is your response to this warner? Will you be among those who listen, reflect, and change their course? Or will you be among those who are asked this painful question on the Day of Judgment? The choice is yours, and the time is now. Allah’s mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open until the moment your soul reaches your throat. Do not let the Fire's rage be your destiny—let the peace of faith and the joy of obedience be your reward instead. Take this warning as a gift, and let it transform your heart today.

📜 Verse 6-10 — Al-Mulk

And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination.
When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up.
It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner?"
They will say," Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.'"
And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze."
