Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Jaheem (الْجَحِيمَ): The blazing, fiercely burning Fire — one of the names of Hell, emphasizing its intense heat and torment.
- Sallūhu (صَلُّوهُ): Cause him to enter it and make him endure its heat — derived from the root meaning "to roast" or "to burn," indicating immersion in the fire.
Explanation of the Verse:
After the stern command is given to the keepers of Hell to seize the wicked criminal and bind his hands to his neck with chains, this verse continues the sequence of punishment: "Then, into the Blazing Fire, make him enter and burn." This is not merely a casual entry — it is a forceful casting into the very heart of the flames, where the scorching heat envelops him from every side. The wording conveys a sense of complete immersion, as if the sinner is being roasted in the fire, experiencing its unbearable torment without respite. This punishment is the direct consequence of a life spent in arrogance, disbelief, and neglect of Allah's commands — refusing to acknowledge the Oneness of Allah, failing to follow His guidance, and withholding kindness from the needy. The sequence of punishments — binding, then casting into the Fire, then binding in a chain of seventy cubits — paints a vivid picture of the comprehensive and inescapable justice that awaits those who reject the truth.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the reality of the Hereafter — a truth that every soul will inevitably face. How merciful is Allah, that He has warned us in advance and given us the opportunity to turn back to Him before that Day arrives! The punishment described here is not for those who strive and stumble, but for those who persist in arrogance and reject the truth after it has been made clear. Let this verse awaken in us a sincere desire to live righteously, to worship Allah alone, and to show compassion to His creation. For the same Allah who warns of the Fire also opens the gates of Paradise to those who believe and do good — and His mercy is far greater than His wrath. Let us not be among those who are dragged to the Fire, but rather among those who rush to His forgiveness and eternal bliss.
