Tafsir (Explanation):
In this profound verse, we witness the arrogance and desperation of tyranny in the face of truth. When Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) stood firm with his message of monotheism — calling people to worship Allah alone — the elite of Pharaoh's court grew alarmed. They approached their king with a cunning question, dripping with manipulation: *"Will you leave Musa and his people to spread corruption in the land, and to abandon you and your gods?"*
Their words reveal their true concern: not the well-being of society, but the preservation of their own power, status, and false deities. They framed the call to pure monotheism as "corruption," for it threatened their entire system of oppression and idolatry. They feared that if people embraced the worship of Allah alone, Pharaoh's authority — which was built on superstition and coercion — would crumble.
Pharaoh's response exposes the bankrupt logic of tyrants. Instead of engaging with the truth or reflecting on the miracles he had witnessed, he resorted to brute force: *"We will slaughter their sons and spare their women, and indeed, we are dominant over them."* This was not a new strategy — it was the same oppressive tactic he had used before, thinking that killing male infants would prevent the rise of a deliverer. Yet, the very child he sought to kill was now standing before him, sent by Allah, and no amount of slaughter could extinguish the light of divine truth.
The verse closes with a chilling boast: *"And indeed, we are dominant over them."* But the believer knows that true dominance belongs to Allah alone. Pharaoh's power was temporary, confined to the earthly realm, while Allah's authority is absolute and eternal. The very next events in the story would prove this — Pharaoh's might was shattered at the bottom of the sea, while Musa and his people were saved.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This scene carries timeless lessons for every generation. First, it shows that the enemies of truth will always resort to slander, intimidation, and violence when they cannot defeat the argument. But the believer's weapon is patience, trust in Allah, and unwavering conviction. Second, it reminds us that power without faith is hollow — Pharaoh had armies, wealth, and absolute control, yet he could not protect his own kingdom from the decree of Allah. Third, it teaches us that no oppression, however severe, can stop the spread of Allah's guidance. The more the tyrants tried to suppress the truth, the more it flourished.
For those who are new to Islam or seeking the truth, this verse is a beacon of hope: no matter how powerful the forces of falsehood may seem, they are ultimately weak before Allah. And for the believers, it is a call to remain steadfast, knowing that the same Allah who saved Musa and his people is with us today — hearing our prayers, witnessing our struggles, and promising victory to those who are patient and righteous. Let us never fear the "Pharaohs" of our time, for their end is already written, and the promise of Allah is true.
