Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) addresses his people—the Children of Israel—at a time when they were suffering severe oppression under Pharaoh. Pharaoh had intensified his persecution, killing their sons and enslaving them, and the people were overwhelmed with despair. It was in this moment of deep trial that Moses gave them a timeless formula for victory and relief.
First, he commanded them: "Seek help from Allah" — meaning, turn to Allah alone, with sincere hearts, asking Him to remove harm and bring about good. This is a call to place complete trust in Allah, recognizing that all power and dominion belong solely to Him. No matter how mighty the tyrant may appear, Allah is the Ultimate Sovereign, and His help is the only true source of strength.
Second, he instructed them: "And be patient" — for patience is the key that unlocks divine assistance. The trials they faced—the killing of their sons, the humiliation, the hard labor—were tests from Allah. Patience here means steadfastness in obedience, refraining from despair, and persevering through hardship without losing faith. It is through patience that hearts are purified and victory is earned.
Then Moses reminded them of a profound truth: "Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah; He grants it as an inheritance to whom He wills among His servants." This statement dismantles the false authority of tyrants. Pharaoh claimed divinity and absolute control over the land of Egypt, but the land is not his—it is Allah's. Allah alone decides who inherits it and when. He may give power to the righteous and take it away from the oppressors, according to His perfect wisdom and will. This was a direct promise of hope: the land of Egypt would not remain in Pharaoh's hands forever; it would be inherited by the believers.
Finally, Moses concluded with a powerful assurance: "And the final outcome is for the righteous." This is a universal promise from Allah—that the ultimate success, in this world and the Hereafter, belongs to those who are mindful of Him, who fulfill His commands and avoid His prohibitions. Even if the righteous face temporary hardship and the wicked seem to prosper, the end is always in favor of the God-conscious. History bears witness: Pharaoh drowned, and the Children of Israel were saved; the oppressor perished, and the believers inherited the land.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries a timeless message for every believer facing trials. When you are surrounded by difficulties, when the forces of falsehood seem overwhelming, remember these words of Moses: seek Allah's help with patience, and hold firm to the certainty that the earth belongs to Allah alone. He will grant it to whom He wills, and the final victory is always for the righteous. So strengthen your faith, be patient, and never lose hope—for Allah's promise is true, and His help is near. The more you rely on Him and remain steadfast, the closer you are to the moment when His divine support descends upon you, and the earth—in all its blessings—becomes a heritage for the believers.
