- كَذَّبُوا – They denied and rejected.
- بِآيَاتِنَا – Our signs, proofs, and evidences (including the Quran, the miracles of the prophets, and the natural signs of Allah’s oneness).
- وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا – They showed arrogance and pride.

Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the blessed people of Paradise and their joy, Allah now turns to the opposite group—those who sealed their own doom. He says: *“And those who denied Our signs and were arrogant toward them—those are the companions of the Fire; they will remain therein forever.”*
This verse describes two intertwined sins that lead to eternal loss:
- Denial of Allah’s signs: These are the clear proofs of Allah’s existence, oneness, and power—the verses of the Quran, the miracles of the messengers, and the countless signs in the heavens and the earth. Denying them means rejecting the truth after it has become evident.
- Arrogance toward them: This is even worse. Some people do not merely deny the truth out of ignorance—they know it is true, but their pride prevents them from submitting. They feel too great to bow to their Lord, too lofty to follow a prophet, and too self-important to accept guidance. This was the attitude of Pharaoh, Abu Jahl, and every tyrant who refused to believe because belief would require humility.
The consequence is decisive: *“Those are the companions of the Fire.”* They are not visitors or temporary residents—they are its permanent dwellers. The word *“khālidūn”* (eternal) removes any hope of escape. The Fire becomes their home, their prison, and their eternal reality.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and look into your own heart. Do you find any trace of arrogance when the truth is presented to you? Do you delay your prayer because you feel too busy? Do you reject a command of Allah because it clashes with your desires or social status? This is the very disease that destroyed nations before us.
The cure is simple and within your reach: humility. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: *“Whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allah, Allah raises him.”* The doors of repentance are open until the moment of death. Do not let pride—the sin of Iblis—become your companion on the Day of Judgment.
Allah does not ask you to be perfect; He asks you to be humble. Accept His signs, submit to His will, and you will be among the people of Paradise, not the people of the Fire. The choice is yours, and the time is now.
