Word Meanings:
- ظَنَنَّا (zanannā): Here it means certainty and firm conviction, not mere doubt or speculation.
- نُعْجِزَ (nu'jiza): To escape, frustrate, or render someone unable to catch us.
- هَرَبًا (haraban): Fleeing, running away to escape.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, the jinn continue narrating their profound realization after hearing the Qur'an and embracing faith. They declare: "And we have become absolutely certain that we can never escape Allah's power while we are on earth, no matter where we are or what we do. And we cannot escape Him even by fleeing — whether we try to run to the heavens or to any corner of the earth, His knowledge and His dominion encompass everything."
This verse reflects the deep awareness that dawned upon the jinn — that Allah's might is absolute and inescapable. They understood that whether they remained on earth or attempted to flee to the skies, they would always remain within Allah's grasp, under His complete control and authority. This certainty came after they had previously held false assumptions about Allah — thinking they could hide from Him or escape His judgment. But upon hearing the truth of the Qur'an, their hearts were filled with conviction that Allah's power surrounds them entirely, and there is no refuge from Him except through Him.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear believer, this verse carries a profound lesson for all of us. Just as the jinn realized they could never escape Allah's power, we too must internalize this truth in our daily lives. When we are tempted to commit a sin in secret, when we think no one sees us, when we imagine we can hide our wrongdoings — let us remember that Allah encompasses us completely, wherever we are and however we try to flee. This awareness is not meant to frighten us, but to purify our hearts and actions. It is the foundation of true faith (taqwa) — to worship Allah as though you see Him, for even though you do not see Him, He certainly sees you. This beautiful certainty brings peace to the soul, for when you know that Allah is always with you, watching over you, you find tranquility in obedience and protection from sin. Let this verse be a reminder that there is no escape from Allah except by turning to Him — and in that turning, we find our greatest freedom and success.
