Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ankāl (أَنكَالًا): Heavy shackles, fetters, or chains used to restrain prisoners.
  • Jaḥīm (جَحِيمًا): A fiercely blazing, intensely hot fire.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah Almighty delivers a stern and awe-inspiring warning to those who reject the truth and persist in opposition to His Messenger (peace be upon him). He declares that for such people, there are, in the Hereafter, heavy shackles and fetters that will bind them in humiliation, and a blazing fire that will scorch them without mercy. This is not merely a threat—it is a certain promise from the Lord of the Worlds, Who never fails in His word.

The mention of *ankāl* (shackles) signifies the utter loss of freedom and the crushing weight of punishment, while *jaḥīm* (blazing fire) represents the intense, unrelenting heat that penetrates the very core of a person. Together, they paint a vivid picture of the fate that awaits those who arrogantly turn away from guidance.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse serves as a profound reminder of Allah's justice. He is not only Ar-Raḥmān (The Most Merciful) but also Al-ʿAdl (The Just). Just as He has prepared unimaginable bliss for the believers, He has also prepared fitting consequences for those who knowingly reject His signs. Yet, the door of repentance remains wide open. No matter how far a person has strayed, Allah invites them to return to Him before that Day arrives—the Day when no ransom will be accepted and no intercession will avail without His permission. Let this warning stir our hearts to gratitude for the guidance we have received, and to compassion for those who have not yet found it, so that we may strive to convey the beauty of Islam with wisdom and gentleness, saving souls from the very fire this verse describes.

📜 Verse 10-14 — Al-Muzzammil

And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little.
Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire
And food that chokes and a painful punishment -
On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down.
