Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Rabba-ka" (Your Lord): The One who created, nurtures, and sustains you with His blessings.
- "Fa-kabbir" (So magnify): To declare His greatness, exalt Him above all imperfections, and affirm His absolute supremacy.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a direct and powerful command from Allah to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and by extension to every believer: "And your Lord, so magnify!" It means to single out your Lord alone for glorification, exaltation, and reverence. This is not merely a verbal declaration but a comprehensive call to purify one's heart, words, and actions so that all forms of worship, obedience, and devotion are directed exclusively to Allah, free from any association of partners with Him.
The command follows the preceding verse, "O you who covers himself [with a garment], arise and warn," indicating that the Prophet's mission begins with warning others of Allah's punishment, and at the same time, he must establish the foundation of Tawhid (monotheism) by magnifying his Lord. This means rejecting all false deities, idols, and every object of worship besides Allah, and affirming that He alone is deserving of all praise, reverence, and submission.
This verse also carries a profound spiritual lesson: the believer's entire life should be centered on glorifying Allah — in prayer, in daily affairs, in times of ease and hardship. When you magnify your Lord, you humble yourself before Him, recognizing His infinite greatness and your own dependence on Him. This instills a sense of peace, purpose, and dignity, freeing the soul from the bondage of created things and elevating it to the pure worship of the Creator.
Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine instruction. When you say "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest) in your prayers and throughout your day, you are affirming that no problem is too big for Him, no obstacle too great, and no power can stand against His will. This single phrase carries immense strength — it lifts your heart from worry to trust, from fear to courage, and from confusion to clarity. Make it your constant companion, and you will find that your Lord never abandons those who magnify Him. Let this verse be a call to purify your faith, dedicate your worship to Allah alone, and live a life that reflects His greatness in every step you take.
