Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Wayl (وَيْلٌ): Destruction, severe punishment, or a valley in Hell reserved for the disbelievers. It signifies intense suffering and ruin.
- Yawma’idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): On that Day — referring to the Day of Judgment.
- Lil-mukadhdhibīn (لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ): For those who deny — i.e., those who reject the truth, the resurrection, and the warnings of the prophets.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a powerful and solemn warning: "Woe, on that Day, to the deniers." It is a recurring refrain in Surah Al-Mursalat, emphasizing the fate of those who persistently reject the reality of the Hereafter and the signs of Allah.
On the Day of Judgment, when every soul will be held accountable for its deeds, the deniers — those who mocked the messengers, belied the resurrection, and refused to submit to their Lord — will face utter destruction and a painful, humiliating chastisement. Their loss will be complete: no intercessor will avail them, no excuse will be accepted, and no escape will be possible. The word "Wayl" conveys not just punishment but a state of profound ruin and despair, as they witness the truth they once denied unfolding before their very eyes.
This verse serves as a mercy in disguise — a final call before the inevitable. It reminds us that denial has consequences, but also that the door of repentance remains open in this life. The believer, upon hearing this warning, should renew their faith, hasten to good deeds, and strive to be among those who affirm the truth rather than reject it. For the deniers, the warning is a chance to reflect and return before it is too late. But for those who persist in arrogance, the Day will bring nothing but regret and ruin.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is the Qur’an in its justice and mercy! It does not leave us in ignorance; it warns us clearly so that we may choose the path of salvation. Let this verse stir your heart: are you among those who accept the truth with humility, or among those who turn away? Today, you have the opportunity to believe, to repent, and to secure a place of eternal bliss. Do not wait until the Day when the deniers will wish they had listened. Embrace the truth now, and let your life be a testimony to faith — for the reward of the believers is Paradise, and the fate of the deniers is woe.
