Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Fir'awn (Pharaoh): The tyrant ruler of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.
  • Tagha (طغى): To transgress all bounds, to exceed the limits in arrogance, oppression, and disbelief.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After Allah, the Exalted, called His Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) in the blessed, purified valley of Tuwa, He commissioned him with a great and weighty mission. Allah said to him: "Go to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed all bounds."

This command carries profound meaning. Pharaoh was not merely a disbeliever—he had crossed every line of decency and humanity. He claimed divinity for himself, enslaved the Children of Israel, killed their sons, and spread corruption throughout the land. His arrogance knew no limits, and his tyranny reached such heights that he dared to say: "I am your lord, the most high" (An-Nazi'at: 24).

Yet notice the beauty of this divine command: Allah did not send Musa to fight Pharaoh with swords or armies. He sent him with words of guidance and mercy. The mission was to invite this most arrogant of tyrants to purify himself, to turn back to his Creator, and to submit in humility.

This teaches us a profound lesson: no matter how far a person has fallen into sin and transgression, the door of repentance remains open. Allah did not abandon Pharaoh to his destruction without first sending him a messenger. Even the worst of sinners deserves to hear the call to truth with wisdom and beautiful preaching.

Beloved reader, if Allah sent Musa to Pharaoh—the man who claimed divinity—then how much more does Allah love His believing servants who err and then seek His forgiveness? The call to Allah is a mercy extended to all of humanity, regardless of their past. It is an invitation to leave the darkness of transgression and enter the light of faith and obedience.

Let this verse inspire you to never despair of Allah's mercy, and to always remember that the purpose of our existence is to worship Allah alone, to purify our souls, and to draw closer to Him through sincere repentance and righteous deeds.

When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
17اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ
