Explanation of the Verse:

This verse completes the description of the one who successfully climbs the difficult path of goodness. After mentioning the noble deeds of freeing captives, feeding the orphan and the poor, Allah now adds the essential spiritual dimension: true faith and mutual encouragement.

The phrase "then he was among those who believed" clarifies that all these righteous actions are only accepted and meaningful when accompanied by sincere faith in Allah. It is not that a person first does good deeds and then believes afterwards—rather, these deeds are the fruits of faith, and faith is their root. The believer's heart is the source from which all goodness flows.

Then comes the beautiful description of a believing community: they advise one another to patience—patience in obeying Allah's commands, patience in refraining from sins, and patience through life's trials and hardships. They do not let each other fall or give up; they hold one another steady on the path.

And they advise one another to mercy—showing compassion to all of Allah's creation. This mercy is not limited to fellow believers but extends to every human being, and even to animals. The believer's heart is wide with mercy, reflecting the attribute of Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful).

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, see how beautiful this path is! It is not a lonely journey—it is a path walked together, where believers hold each other's hands, reminding one another to be patient and to be merciful. This is the community that Allah describes with honor.

Imagine a society where everyone advises everyone else to patience and mercy—where no one is left to struggle alone, where compassion is the currency of daily dealing. This is the society Islam builds. And the key that opens this door is faith—believing in Allah, trusting His wisdom, and loving His creation for His sake.

So ask yourself: Are you among those who believe? Do you encourage others to be patient? Do you spread mercy around you? The door of goodness is open, and the path is clear. Take the first step today, and you will find yourself walking among the most honored of Allah's servants.
