Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- رددناه (Radadnahu): We returned him or brought him back.
- أسفل سافلين (Asfala Safileen): The lowest of the low; the most degraded state, referring to the depths of decline and deterioration.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After mentioning that Allah created the human being in the most excellent form and perfect stature, this verse reveals the sobering reality of human frailty: "Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low." This refers to two profound truths. First, in the worldly sense, it points to the natural decline of old age—when a person reaches the feeblest stage of life, losing physical strength, mental sharpness, and becoming dependent once again, much like a child. Second, and more significantly, it points to the spiritual decline: when a person abandons faith in Allah and disobeys His messengers, they sink to the lowest moral and spiritual depths—lower than the animals—and ultimately face the fire of Hell. The verse serves as a powerful reminder that human excellence and beauty are not permanent; they can be lost through neglect of one's purpose, or through the inevitable passage of time. However, this is not a message of despair, but rather a call to action—a reminder that our time in this world is limited, and we must use our strength and faculties before they fade.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
O beloved reader, reflect on this profound truth: Allah created you in the most beautiful form, with intellect, reason, and the capacity for goodness. But this life is fleeting, and every soul will taste decline. The wise person is the one who seizes the opportunity of youth, health, and strength to draw closer to Allah, to do good deeds, and to prepare for the eternal life to come. Do not wait until your strength fades and your time runs out. The doors of repentance are open, and Allah's mercy is vast. Turn to Him today, follow His guidance, and secure for yourself the eternal reward that never diminishes—a reward that is far better than all the fleeting pleasures of this world. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds have a reward that is never cut off, never ending, and never exhausted. So be among them, and let your life be a journey toward eternal success.
