Surah At-Tin — Verse 5

After mentioning that Allah created the human being in the most excellent form and perfect stature, this verse reveals the sobering reality of human frailty: "Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low." First, in the worldly sense, it points to the natural decline of old age—when a person reaches the feeblest stage of life, losing physical strength, mental sharpness, and becoming dependent once again, much like a child. Second, and more significantly, it points to the spiritual decline: when a person abandons faith in Allah and disobeys His messengers, they sink to the lowest moral and spiritual depths—lower than the animals—and ultimately face the fire of Hell.
