Word Meanings:

  • Mithqal dharrah (مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ): The weight of a tiny ant or the smallest particle of dust — an atom's weight. It signifies the absolute smallest conceivable measure of anything.
  • Khayran (خَيْرًا): Any act of goodness, righteousness, or virtue, whether apparent or hidden.
  • Yarah (يَرَهُ): He will see it — meaning he will encounter its full reward and consequence before him, visibly and undeniably.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares that on the Day of Judgment, every soul will face the precise outcome of its deeds, no matter how minuscule. The word "dharrah" refers to the tiniest particle imaginable — the weight of a single ant's foot or a speck of dust floating in a sunbeam. This is not a metaphor for insignificance; rather, it emphasizes that Allah's justice is absolute and His scale is infinitely precise.

Whoever performs even the smallest act of goodness — a kind word, a gentle smile, removing a harm from the road, a moment of patience, or a secret charity — will see it on that Day, not diminished or lost, but magnified and rewarded beyond what they could ever imagine. Allah does not let a single atom's weight of good go to waste. He multiplies it, preserves it, and presents it to the believer as a treasure they never expected.

This verse instills hope and motivation: no good deed is too small to matter. A person might think their efforts are trivial, but Allah values every sincere action. The believer who knows this will never neglect a chance to do good, for they understand that even the smallest seed of righteousness will bloom into a garden of reward in the Hereafter.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine standing before your Lord on a day when the earth itself bears witness to your deeds. Would you not want even the smallest good you did — a prayer you offered, a parent you honored, a truth you spoke, a hand you extended in help — to be shining before you? This verse is a divine promise of hope: your Lord is not unjust, nor does He forget. He has recorded every breath of goodness you took, and He will return it to you in full, multiplied by His boundless mercy.

So never underestimate the power of small deeds. A single date given in charity, a verse of Quran recited, a tear shed in humility before Allah — all are seeds of eternal light. And if you have fallen short, know that the same verse also warns of seeing every evil, so turn to your Lord in repentance now, and fill your scales with goodness before that Day arrives. The door is open, and the reward is beyond your imagination.

That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
7فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,
8وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ
And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
